Visit the village that inspired Lord of The Rings Author, J.R.R Tolkien

J.R.R. Tolkien spent several formative months in Great Haywood, Staffordshire in late 1916 and early 1917. While staying in the village with his wife Edith, he began drafting the foundational mythology for Middle-earth, including The Fall of Gondolin.

The Staffordshire Tolkien Trail is a series of three linked walks that cover over 30 miles of the Staffordshire Countryside on and around Cannock Chase. The walks focus on Staffordshire’s J.R.R. Tolkien connection, but also offer lots of other local history interest and great Staffordshire views.
